St. Matthew's Parish, Boston

An unbroken chain
from Antioch to Boston.

The Church of Antioch

Our roots trace to the ancient Patriarchate of Antioch — where followers of Christ were first called Christians. The Syriac Orthodox Church preserves this living apostolic inheritance through an unbroken episcopal succession spanning two millennia.

The Syriac-Aramaic Heritage

Our liturgy is sung and prayed in Syriac — the dialect of Aramaic spoken by Christ himself. When the faithful raise their voices at St. Matthew's, they join a continuous act of worship that has never ceased since the days of the Apostles.

Sacred Worship

The Divine Liturgy at St. Matthew's is a full encounter with the sacred — through ancient prayers, sacred music, holy sacraments, incense rising to heaven, and scripture proclaimed across millennia. Each Sunday is both ancient and alive.

Saint Matthew, Our Patron

This parish bears the name of the Apostle and Evangelist Matthew — tax collector turned Apostle, author of the first Gospel. His witness to Christ's life, death, and resurrection is the scriptural foundation of our faith and the inspiration of our community.

Ancient prayers. Sacred chant. The fragrance of incense. A community gathered in the name of Christ.

This is what you will encounter at St. Matthew's. Not an echo of the past — but a living tradition that breathes, sings, and prays today.

In Remembrance

We remember with reverence the Sayfo — the Syriac Genocide of 1915 — in which hundreds of thousands of our Syriac, Assyrian, and Chaldean Christian brothers and sisters perished. Their memory is held in our prayers, their faith carried forward in our community.

Part of something
larger than one parish.

St. Matthew's is in full communion with the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch — a global community of faithful united under one apostolic succession, from Boston to Damascus and beyond.
